In a press release dated October 8, 2008, filed herewith as Exhibit 99.1 and incorporated by
reference herein, W Holding Company, Inc. (the “Company”) announced that it had received a letter
from The New York Stock Exchange, Inc. granting the Company’s request for up to an
additional six-month trading period extension to file its delinquent annual report on Form 10-K for
the year ended December 31, 2007, subject to reassessment on an ongoing basis.
