water.JPGEnergy from greywater? Yes, Virginia. Yesterday, Encore Energy Systems (Pink Sheets: ENCS) announced that it will make their greywater geothermal technology available to waste water treatment plants (WWTP) in Massachusetts, thus supplying heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) for these facilities. Greywater comprises the majority of residential wastewater, and is distinct from blackwater, which is the more polluted form of wastewater from industrial waste or pure sewage.

Encore will focus on retrofitting 14 WWTP's with Encore's patented greywater geothermal heat exchangers. The company says that up to 70 percent savings on heating and cooling expenses can be expected. The more general plan of Encore is to support Massachusetts' goal of reducing both costs and CO2 emissions from operations.

Encore Senior Vice President Brian Mello said, with a Massachusetts accent: "Bringing this technology to the state of Mass is an exciting time for me personally, a New Bedford native, I'm looking forward to working with the state agencies and making a positive environmental impact there. We are popular within the WWTP industry because they consume so much energy, but our technology has applications throughout every industry, business, or residential development."

On January 28, Modern Technology Corporation (Pink Sheets: MODC, MODC message board) announced plans to acquire a controlling interest, at least 51 percent, in Encore Energy Systems. Modern Technology Corporation is a specialized holding company that injects cash into companies that it sees as having good potential, and apparently Encore's patent for greywater HVAC caught their attention. The announcement exploded the price of Encore stock, which quadrupled briefly before falling back to its price yesterday of $.0014 per share. This still represents a 280 percent increase from its opening of $.0005 on January 28.

In the same period, from January 28 to before the opening bell on February 1, Modern Technology Corp. tripled in price, rocketing from $.002 to $.006, after a brief foray all the way to $.012...

I can understand the price of Encore stock jumping from this news of being "bought out," but does it really make sense for the stock price of purchasing company, Modern Technology Corp., to triple? Hmm. Look for more volatility in the prices of these two stocks in the near future, as the deal progresses.

The big picture is that the oil industry is being deemphasized in America. Much of our energy in the future will come from waste and waste water. Companies like Encore are leading the way.
