American Electric Power Company, Inc., a public utility holding company, engages in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power. It distributes electric power at wholesale to other electric utility companies, rural electric co-operatives, municipalities, and other market participants. The company operates in the states of Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. As of December 31, 2006, it owned or leased approximately 35,000 megawatts of power generation capacity. American Electric Power was founded in 1906 and is based in Columbus, Ohio.
