Medicare Reimbursement of Short-term Acute Care Hospitals – Medicare reimburses general short-term acute care hospitals under a prospective payment system. Under the short-term acute care prospective payment system, Medicare inpatient costs are reimbursed based upon a fixed payment amount per discharge using DRGs.
