While most companies' revenues are declined by 30% to 60% during this recession, it's very interesting that STKL posted 46th consecutive quarters of increased revenue. Second half of this year will be even better with several new product lines hitting market and it should post bottom line profit (see the estimate). Having all major grocers and some large restaurants like Costco, Kirkland, Safeway, McDonald, SYSCO, Albertson, WholeFood, Trader Joe's, Kroger etc on customer list, STKL has huge room for growth. This stock yet to be discovered and we will see steady uptrend from here. Next week it should break $2.50 and head towards $3+ as earning is around the corner.

Looks like they are also heavily involved in the production of cellulosic ethanol with great amount funded by Department of Energy.
SunOpta's process is a platform for pretreatment. What arises from a sugar platform is a basis for the replacement of currently used petrochemicals and oil-based products. These are going to take the place of consumer staples (and discretionary items) now made from oil. Hydrogen is not going to solve our coal, natural gas, nulcear and petroleum problem. Many technologies including sun, wind and cellulose are part of the solution. Cellulose is the only one that offers textile and chemical replacement.

Some might argue that if we produce too much cellulose or too many co-products, their value will decrease with the law of diminishing returns. To be exact however, the petroleum market will be contracting while the cellulose and biobased products markets will be growing. While one fades out, the other takes its place. Likewise, there are so many chemicals products to be replaced that biomass refining is the perfect solution that can meet all those needs.

Peoples' lives are so ingrained with modern products and chemicals that many of the products consumers use are indeed inelastic. Plastic bags, containers, lotions, lubricants, paints, solvents and packaging can all be replaced with cellulosic, biobased products.

That's very good news for SunOpta because the continuous steam explosion process does not alter, inhibit or destroy the value chains in biomass. It allows them to be accessible for the right process steps including saccharfication and chromotographic separation. Solvents and acids are too expensive and many are ineffectual. Likewise, thermochemical processing can make some of these products but making them from "char" isn't exactly a green approach to solving our environmental problems. The other side of that coin is that thermochemical processing isn't going to yield pharmaceutical grade and food grade chemicals.

Biochemical fermentation using SunOpta's process gets a big boost here because it is the only pretreatment that is industrially proven and comes with process guarantees. What follows from SunOpta's process is efficient and economical production of fuels and value chains that are directly applicable to consumer staple markets. Since consumer staples consistently beat technology companies and consumer discretionary items, biomass conversion using SunOpta's pretreatment is a superb investment.

With Silk dropping most of their organic soymilk lines, more Sunopta soymilk is now going to be sold. All of the soymilk contracts are intact and booming. Im a buyer, this stock looks undervalued for a growth investor

I would say it is a good buy. This stock has been trading for the last 5 years at over $5. USA is world's highest soy producer, and entire America produces 90% of global soy. China produces only 10% and will be a net importer in a year time, cause Asian soy consumption is increasing double digit rate. Soy milk and other products making good growth in USA
http://www.soyfoods.org/products

Sunopta producing 300 million quarts = 75 million gallons soy milk, that is 25% of total soy milk production in USA.

I believe this is one of the most undervalued food stock at this time. should be traded at least at $5 or 6/sh. Soy goes up from here!!!

In United States, Organic Food, Beverage and non-food (organic fibers, personal products etc) Products sales jumped 17% in 2008 - healthy symptom for Organic producers like STKL.

Organic food sales grew in 2008 by 15.8% to $22.9B
organic non-food sales grew by an astounding 39.4% to reach $1.65B

organic food sales now account for approximately 3.5% percent of all food product sales in the United States.
BTW, this is a very accurate gauge of the company and when we compare Sunopta to a company such as SJM, I think we can easily say Sunopta is worth $15.00.

soy is holding up strong. Pretty good support level at 2.70's. i expect $3.50 to 4 next week then back to the $5's where it should be. They dont really have any competition in there field. They are one of the main suppliers for Organic Foods in Canada and US, Europe too!

Silk recently dropped three of its organic soymilk lines. (As noted by several analysts on the call) Now they appear to only have two varieties that are organic. That means much more market share for SunOpta and with the McDonald's soymilk contract, this is good news. This is the prefect time to double expansion of soymilk while competitors are exiting the field and SunOpta is signing on exterior market growth while capturing existing sales from Silk.

SUNOPTA STRIKES SOY BEAN DEAL WITH SOUTH KOREA.
Im expecting higher revenues for the second quarter results in July.

ISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota's lieutenant governor says four Midwestern companies have a $5 million deal to export about 275,000 bushels of soybeans to South Korea for tofu products.

Lt. Gov. Jack Dalrymple said SB&B Foods of Casselton, Brushvale Seed of Wahpeton-Breckenridge, SunOpta of Moorhead, Minn., and The DeLong Co., Inc., of Clinton, Wis., will sell the so-called "identity-preserved" soybeans to the Korean Federation of Soybean-Curd Industry Cooperatives, which represents 12 Korean tofu-processing groups.

Identity-preserved crops are grown under specific instructions, usually under contract, and can be tracked to the field where they were grown. Officials say they bring a premium price.

Dalrymple and Gov. John Hoeven said in a statement that the deal announced Wednesday is first major purchase of identity-preserved soybeans by the South Korea's private soy food industry.

Sunopta should be getting better margins because instead of only making a variable profit through selling Silk soy ingredients, Sunopta can manage those same ingredients better and take the market share that Silk has now lost in organic soymilk.

The charts are telling it is a good buy at this time. Organic food consumption rapidly increasing throughout the world. Even though organic foods cost little more, consumers do not hesitate to pay for it as they are now becoming more health cautious. Over past 5 years, SOY had an average growth rate of 12%, however over next 5 years it has an estimated growth rate of 30%+ (see analyst estimates in yahoo). This stock trades undervalued, hopefully Q2 will be a nice one and PPS will head towards $3+. Organic grocer Whole Food (WFMI) trading at 0.33 P/S while Sunopta at 0.13 P/S - surely looks undervalued.

Increases on low volume with eager buyers meeting the supply on a higher-than-average volume day. This stock must be a market makers nightmare. Never enough shares to go around and just enough to fill orders for new buyers. The thing about individuals is that they are much more tenacious holders than institutions. STKL will easily do $1 billion per quarter in the future.

SunOpta's cellulosic bioprocessing technology has been used for decades. This is a very good article on why the real technologies are going to make it and why the fraudulent ones are not. The simple fact is, SunOpta's process has been used by the US DOE for decades and there are very good reasons why the plants actually producing cellulosic ethanol are using SunOpta's patented process
