Recently I drove by a clever billboard on Reserve Street in Missoula, MT asserting that Missoula is a "One Horse Town." A smug statement by First Security Bank with the dated, dayglow, horse centered on the all too ubiquitous signage that at once asserts community spirit and a certain self-professed dominance in banking.

Still, the systems of communication with its sister bank remains poor at best ... for one thing. Ascertians made about "free checking", and basic follow-through in service, verbal promises, and stated policy are a constant dissappointment.

First Security and her sister are complacent and sloppy. The regular guy/gal will find themselves shortchanged at every turn; the big fish might get a song and a dance, but the institution that treats the least among us the worst should legitimately be looked at with great skepticism on the larger playing field. Todays darlings could be tomorrows' refuse with hardly a glance or apology.

While this bank is quick to impose erroneous fees, it largely remains seemingly ignornat somehow of any care to see that regular people do not fall victim to sytematic over-charges, designed it seems, of robbing them of hard earned and much needed funds.

Despite many atm locations I am getting a feeling of certainty that my cash might be safer to account for in my fireplace than in the hands of this bank.

It may be worth noting that after lodging a polite and concerned inquiry about a repeated midhandling of my funds that my online banking priviledges are mysteriously denied.

One horse town. Ha.
