Virginia Tomic ( knew her as Virginia Hutchinson) always seemed more an academic rather than demonstrating keen practical managerial talent. With regard to her penchant for "cleaning house" I would say she implemented a "scorched earth" approach with regard to subordinates she disdained. Mrs. Tomic- Hutchinson was perceived as difficult to deal with, especially when challenged.
From what I understand, subsequent to leaving Kemper in 2002, Virginia Tomic assumed a number of unsuccessful career choices (i.e. e-diets, Ceridian among them) prior to HSS. |

There are many professional opportunities out there, I chose to consult/contract at HSS because of the leadership, the talent and the vision of Virginia Tomic, not once; but twice. As stated above by Lou Pan'Maruca-Lagravinese, difficult decisions must be made in today's business enviornment, decisions that require bold changes and even bolder ideas. Virginia has the insight and the courage to implement changes that make a difference to the business while balancing a human capital approach to success.

I would work with (or for) her anytime. We partnered very effectively in Ceridian Benefits Services during 2006. Virginia is a good strategic planner and is very astute on the industry drivers, customer needs, and emerging trends. She builds effective working relationships with her colleagues, has high integrity, and is very approachable. She demonstrates the courage to raise the difficult issues and get them worked. I observed Virgina to be an effective leader.

I have known and worked with Virginia Tomic for over 7 years. She has been a very diligent, creative marketing professional with great wit and very appropriate humor. Her value system cannot be challenged.
Virginia is a true team player; willing to work as hard or harder than anyone on her team. |

I worked with Virginia Tomic for several years at Ceridian Benefit Services. She was very customer focused and visionary with respect to product management. She was extremely patient with all team members, chosing to focus on development opportunties whenever possible. It was a pleasure and a great educational experience working with her. I would look forward to being a member of her team.

I have known Virginia Tomic for 7 years and had the pleasure of working for her for about two years before I moved out of the area. She is a creative manager and leader who is patient and understanding. I will always appreciate the mentoring that she gave to me during that time.

I have known Virginia for over 10 years and as a former executive with her in the past, I can say that she was perceived as a good manager and is liked by her subordinates and her superiors. Additionally, she is currently a sounding board for my company in the areas of marketing and advertisement.

I find the original post to this forum absolutely bizarre and representative of comments usually made by an inferior person using a public forum to voice their personal angst. I think Mr. Ross should post a reply and an apology for attempting to slam a very professional woman. I suspect Mr. Ross is probably one of the former subordinates who is not the same quality or the same talent as Virginia Tomic. He is likely disgruntled with his own career path. I have always applauded Virginia's ability to make the tough decisions necessary to maximize the successes for all. When a person is this talented, they have the opportunity to continually grow and expand their career options through a variety of companies. I would think Mr. Ross may be stuck in his own rut and is not capable of recoginizing the value of growing and expanding. I have pity for you, Mr. Ross. For Ms. Tomic, I would work with her or for her in any capacity. I know she would strive to direct me to deliver my best effort for myself and the company.

I had the pleasure of working for Virginia Tomic for two years and can honestly say that no one has ever brought out my best more than she. Virginia leads by example and promotes open communication that maximizes the benefits of a creative atmosphere while minimizing the potentially adverse affects of "group-think." Her leadership style encourages the professional growth of her subordinates, and her high level of integrity and good-hearted nature are characteristic that are -- unfortunately -- too often missing in the corporate world. I am proud to have worked for Virginia and a better person for having known her.

I have known Virginia Tomic for approximately 7 years. I found her to be an exceptional leader with those reporting to her expressing a great deal of respect for her. As a colleague I found Ms. Tomic to be one to âget the job doneâ. Mr. Ross' statement does not at all reflect Ms Tomic.

Vision. Passion. Drive. Intellectual Curiosity. These are but a few of the words that come to mind when experiencing working with Ms. Tomic. Over a decade, she continues to drive revenue, dazzle customers and gain market share. She is an asset to any organization.
