BMC Software (NYSE:BMC) today announced that BladeLogic, acquired by BMC in April 2008, has been named the fastest-growing IT Operations Management (ITOM) software vendor according to a recent industry report by Gartner1. BladeLogic experienced unparalleled growth in 2007 as server provisioning, configuration and compliance management all became key priorities for organizations seeking to introduce automation in their data centers.
According to Gartner’s findings, the ITOM software market continues to be one of the fastest-growing segments in the industry, experiencing double-digit growth for the fourth consecutive year. This trend mirrors feedback from BMC customers emphasizing the increasing importance of ITOM tools and products as organizations continue to adopt best practices such as the IT Infrastructure Library® (ITIL®) and focus on increasing the speed of enacting change within their IT departments.
Gartner analyst Rene Millman writes, “ITOM products assist with preserving and improving the efficiency of established assets. In support of these efforts, products focused on application, configuration and asset management will continue to grow at a much faster rate as IT departments battle to cut costs in uncertain economic times.”
Additionally, the report found that BMC extended its leadership position in the IT service desk and help desk market for the fifth consecutive year. The report indicates that sustained growth of the IT service desk and helpdesk market sub-segment is indicative of the continued importance of improving service levels across the organization.
“2007 was BMC’s strongest year to date in many respects. BMC believes that Gartner’s market share rankings are indicative of our continued success, highlighted by sustained leadership in core BSM markets, such as service desk and helpdesk, and significant growth in rapidly developing markets such as Service Automation,” said Jim Grant, senior vice president and general manager of BMC’s Enterprise Service Management Business Unit. “Through strategic investments such as the BladeLogic acquisition, we will continue to support our customers with even richer solutions supporting their business services and facilitating the level of agility and responsiveness they need within their IT organizations.”
