LifePoint Hospitals, Inc. (NASDAQ: LPNT) today announced results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2008.

For the second quarter ended June 30, 2008, revenues from continuing operations were $680.8 million, up 4.1% from $654.3 million for the same period a year ago. Income from continuing operations for the quarter increased 28.3% to $31.5 million, or $0.59 per diluted share, compared with income from continuing operations for the second quarter of 2007 of $24.6 million, or $0.43 per diluted share. Net income for the quarter increased 128.9% to $30.5 million, or $0.57 per diluted share, compared with net income of $13.4 million, or $0.23 per diluted share, for the same period a year ago.

For the first half of 2008, revenues from continuing operations were $1.4 billion, up 5.0% from $1.3 billion for the first half of 2007. Income from continuing operations for the six months ended June 30, 2008, increased 12.4% to $71.2 million, or $1.31 per diluted share, compared with income from continuing operations for the six months ended June 30, 2007, of $63.3 million, or $1.11 per diluted share. Net income for the first half of 2008 increased 67.5% to $72.3 million, or $1.33 per diluted share, compared with net income for the first half of 2007 of $43.2 million, or $0.76 per diluted share.
