Wind River's Linux solution for embedded device development and its VxWorks software, which is the industry's most widely-adopted commercial grade RTOS and tightly integrated run-time technologies, will each be seamlessly integrated with the Comcerto 100 processor platform. This will give designers a complete, high-performance solution for developing an extensive range of equipment platforms and applications.

"Mindspeed is excited to be working with Wind River through our OpenMind(TM) partner program to bring customers one of the industry's most powerful out-of-the-box solutions for such a diverse range of possible system designs, ranging from packet processing and video processing platforms to residential gateways, enterprise routers and media gateway equipment," said Preet Virk, vice president and general manager of enterprise and customer premise equipment. "From the smallest footprint requirement to the highest performance levels, VxWorks gives developers extraordinary flexibility while meeting cost, quality and functionality requirements, and for embedded device developers, Wind River's Linux solution delivers optimized platforms for applications ranging from aerospace and defense, networking and consumer electronics to industrial devices and automotive infotainment."

"We are pleased to be showcasing our VxWorks and Linux offerings on such a powerful platform for service providers," said Kuljeet Kalkat, vice president of marketing at Wind River. "Mindspeed's Comcerto platform, its OpenMind program, and our two companies' joint development work are all key elements in Wind River's ongoing commitment to making it easier for our customers to develop and deploy innovative products faster, better, at lower cost and more reliably."

Mindspeed's Comcerto 100 is a dual-core packet processor supported by OpenWrt Linux distribution plus the same field-proven VoIP software suite developed for Mindspeed's Comcerto carrier VoIP processor family, as well as third-party software and hardware offerings made available through the Mindspeed OpenMind developer's program. Wind River is a key partner in Mindspeed's OpenMind program, which gives customers access to design expertise, proven operating system and software applications, and off-the-shelf and customized hardware, software and system solutions.

The Comcerto 100 processor features a pair of high-performance ARM 11 processors, a security engine, 64KB of on-chip memory, 128KB of L2 cache, a 64-bit-wide, 165MHz multi-layer interconnect bus, and built-in QoS and traffic-management capabilities. The highly integrated solution delivers the fast packet throughput that telecommunication providers need to deliver sophisticated, reliable, revenue-generating services and secured multimedia content to SMB subscribers.

Mindspeed and Wind River are currently collaborating with lead customers on this new joint solution. The Wind River Linux and VxWorks software solutions for Comcerto 100 will both be generally available for customers in the second half of 2008.
